3 Major Types of Welded Wire Mesh

October 19, 2022

Wire meshes primarily fall into two categories, woven and welded wire mesh. While the former is formed by weaving, making it more pliable and versatile, the latter creates a tough, barrier-like structure known for its rigid frame. Welded wire mesh is used extensively in sectors like construction, agriculture, manufacturing and more. Furthermore, depending on the treatment and function, these meshes can be divided into multiple categories. 3 of them are stated below.

3 varieties of welded wire mesh.

PVC Welded Wire Mesh

As the name suggests, this type of wire mesh uses a coating of PVC on top. Due to this addition, the welded wire mesh develops significant corrosion resistance, as well as durability against the elements such as sunshine and rain. Furthermore, it also gives a particular hue to the wire mesh.

Galvanized Welded Wire Mesh

Galvanizing entails coating a layer of zinc over the wire mesh to offer corrosion resistance. Once the welded mesh is prepared, it is coated with zinc through either electro-galvanizing or through hot-dipping. The former comprises using electricity to evenly plate the wire mesh with zinc while the latter involves dipping the mesh in a molten zinc bath which has a temperature of 450 degrees Celcius (842 degrees Fahrenheit).

Welded Stainless Steel Wire Mesh

In this type of welded wire mesh, stainless steel wire mesh is welded at intersections to create a uniform and solid weld. One of the biggest benefits of this type is the use of resistance welding instead of using a filler, resulting in a strong, consistent product. Also known for its corrosion resistance, this type of wire can also be easily cut down and processed to smaller sizes.

Ferrier Wire Good Company Inc. offers steel meshes, copper meshes, chicken wire, and more, apart from textured sheet metal and decorative panels. To know more about these products, contact us today.
