Product Spotlight: All About Our Wire

Ferrier Wire stocks a wide range of solid wire made from a variety of different metals for use in a variety of applications. Our selection includes aluminum wire, stainless steel wire, copper wire and mild steel wire.

Here are the types of wire we carry:

1350 H19 Aluminum – Corrosion resistant, bright and shiny, malleable, easily formed

C260 Brass – a copper alloy (~70% copper & ~30% zinc), gold coloured, malleable, easily formed for art and sculpture.

C220 (Commercial) Bronze – A copper alloy (~90% copper, ~10% zinc), rich, warm bronze colour attractive to weave and for use in art and sculpture.

C110 Copper – Red copper colour, malleable, easily formed for art, sculpture and jewellery

Galvanized – weather resistant, economical for art and sculpture.

Low Carbon Mild Steel – Will rust, economical

304 Stainless steel – Corrosion resistant, excellent as tie wire, for arts and sculpture.

316 Stainless steel – Marine grade (due to the addition of molybdenum) and more corrosion resistant than 304 stainless steel, typically used as tie wire in highly corrosive environments

Most of the wire comes off a coil and the thinner gauges of stainless steel, copper and brass come in small spools (typically 1 lb spools).  The mild steel and stainless wire thicker than .125” (3.18 mm) we stock in straight lengths ranging from 4’ to 14’.  We are also able to cut these down to size.

We are proud to source our wire to local aritsts and craftmakers across the GTA. Images 4-5 show our wire used to create beautiful jewellery by students at Fleming College.
